He served in the military Co. A, 20th Wis. Inf. during the Civil War.1341

He was a civil engineer for the Kansas City, Watkins & Gulf Railroad. He later became a professor at the Univerisity of Iowa and held this position for many years.

Lete died on 10 October 1902 at the age of 63 in Medford, Jackson, Oregon.1341

His obituary was published in the Medford Enquirer in Medford, Jackson, Oregon.1342

Died:--At the residence of S.W. Boyd on Griffin Creek, Friday evening Oct. 10th. Prof. P. H. Philbrick, aged 63 years. His remains were shipped to his old home in Iowa, Monday. Prof. Philbrick was the owner of the Crowell ranch and was a recent arrival in this section from Lake Charles, LA.

His obituary was published in the Democratic Times in Jacksonville, Jackson, Oregon.1343

Died.-- PHILBRICK-- In Pooh Bah Precinct, Oct. 11, 1902, Prof. P. H. Philbrick; aged 64 years. Prof. P.H.Philbrick, who came from Louisiana sometime ago and purchased the Crowell place, situated in Pooh Bah precinct, died Sunday. He had been suffering from liver disease for several years. His daughter was notified of his illness, but arrived too late to see her father alive. The remains were embalmed by the Medford Furniture Co. and shipped to the deceased man 's former home for burial.

He was buried at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa.1341

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Dr. Inez Celia Philbrick practiced medicine in Lincoln, Nebraska from 1893 to 1937. Her education included a Batchelor of Arts Degree from the University of Iowa in 1886, which was followed by a teaching position at Fargo, North Dakota. Later she obtained her Master of Arts Degree at the University of Iowa and then earned her medical degree from Womenís Medical College of Philadelphia in 1891. Dr. Philbrick was active in the womenís suffrage movement in the early 1900ís and later devoted much of her time promoting the passage of legislation which would have legalized euthanasia. After retiring in 1937, she lived in Dayton, Ohio and in Riverside, California.

The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and printed matter relating to Dr. Philbrickís activities in support of womenís suffrage, euthanasia, and education. Correspondents include: Susan B. Anthony (1894, 1903), Mary B. Bryan (1900, 1906), Emmeline (Goulden) Pankhurst (1911), Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1902), and Henry Moore Teller (1907).

Francis Franklin Samuel PHILBRICK1347 was born on 30 September 1876 in Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa. He was a "professor of law". He married a Swiss woman who died in New York City following the birth of their twins. Franklin eventually married again and had a daughter Katherine.
