He died on 30 June 1924 at the age of 61 in Illinois. He was buried in Houghton, Houghton, Michigan. Died in a train crash. He and President Hoover were at the same location but left on different trains.
!Source:Evelyn MacDonald BIEBL,a grandniece to Fred's wife. He became a member of the faculty of the Michigan College of Mines in Houghton, Michigan and in the early 1900's was named President of the College, a position held until his death. (The name of the College has been changed but it is still a thriving university.)
