Name on census: Ignatius Philbrook.

DEATH OF IGNATIUS PHILBROOK.

The remains of Ignatius Philbrook arrived at Reilly Bros.' undertaking parlors, yesterday, from Merced, and funeral services were conducted by Rev. Queen, at 3 o'clock pm.

Deceased was resident of Ventura county, near Hueneme, and in the Simi, from '76 to '93, when he removed to Merced. He was the father of Mrs. Wm. Goodyear, and at the time of his death was aged 70 years.

Ignatius PHILBROOK and Catherine America MORGAN were married on 15 December 1858 in Shelby County, Illinois.^1029,1691 They resided in California in 1880. Catherine America MORGAN¹⁰²⁹, daughter of Joseph MORGAN and Francis SPEARS, was born on 1 January 1831 in Ohio.^119,1690

She was a widow and was living with her daughter Ida and her husband William Goodyear. Her daughter Augusta was also living with them. Name on census: America Philbrook.

Long and Useful Life of Los Posas Woman Comes to Close

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. America Philbrook, 101 years of age, who passed away Saturday evening of the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Goodyear, with whom she has made her home for the past 15 years.
The services at Ivy Lawn Cemetary were very simple and brief and only members of the family and a few friends were present in accordance with the wishes of Mrs. Philbrook.
CATHERINE AMERICA MORGAN was born in Ohio January 1, 1831 and married Ignatius Philbrook in Illinois Dec 14, 1858, where they resided for many years. They came to California in 1877; conducting an apiary in Simi for several years and then moving to Conejo in 1882 where they kept the Post Office, stage station and general stopping place until 1886. At that time they moved to Ocean View and resided on the ranch now owned by Stanley Pidduck.
Seven years later they moved to Mariposa County where Mr. Philbrook died in 1902. Since that time, Mrs. Philbrook has made her home with 2 of her daughters, first Mrs. Cecilia Stahl and later Mrs. Goodyear.
The surviving children are: Mrs. Augusta Wilson; who is living at the Goodyear home at the present time; Arthur of Costa Mesa; Mrs. Cecilia Stahl of Claremont; Herman Philbrook, of Ocean View; Mrs. Goodyear of Somis; Ralph Philbrook of the Santa Ross Valley; I. E. Philbrook of Somis. There is one daughter, Alice, who has passed away. There are also 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. who will always cherish the memory of the sweet little white haired lady known to them as "Grandma".
