Her obituary reads, in part: "Death came to one of Akron's well known and esteemed women, Mrs. E. B. Rice, last Friday afternoon at the Akron Hospital, where she had been taken the previous Monday, following a stroke. Mrs. Rice was a faithful member of the Methodist church and was active in the various organizations of the church. A devoted wife and mother, a helpful and loyal friend and neighbor, she will long be remembered for her many kindly deeds."

He died on 22 February 1948 at the age of 78 in Akron, Plymouth, Iowa. He was buried on Feb. 24 in Riverside Cemetery there. His death certificate indicated cirrhosis.

His obituary reads, in part: "Death came after a brief illness to Eb. K. Rice, one of Akron's most esteemed citizens, on Sunday. Mr. Rice, who for many years had worked at the carpenter trade here and in the surrounding territory, was actively engaged in his profession up until his final illness. Always an excellent craftsman, Mr. Rice posessed a cheerful personality that endeared him to every acquaintance. As a young boy, he came with his parents to Herndon, Iowa. There, on Nov. 11, 1889, he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Philbrick. About a year later they moved to Laurel, Nebraska, which place remained their home until 1912, when they came to Akron. This town has since remained their home."
