In his early days Herbert was a carpenter, and later worked for the old Portsmouth Shoe Company. For 22 years, he was employed as motorman on the Portsmouth Electric Railway asd during the entire period with the street railway, he was never involved in a single accident. Following retirement, he returned to his former trade, carpentry. He was a member of the Fire Dept. and was an active member of the Portsmouth Gun Club. He was affiliated with Damon Lodge, No. 9, Knights of Pythias, ans Massasoit Tribe, No. 16, I. O. R. M. This information was provided by Herbert Philbrick, grandson. Herbert E. PHILBRICK and Ida Florence MARDEN were married on 1 January 1881 in Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire.906 Herbert and his wife lived at 359 Broad Street, Portsmouth, for nearly 45 years, but were both natives of Rye.
