my g-grandfather & g-grandmother, Christen HALVORSEN and Anne Marie

John, you have created a great web site...Thanks. My GG grandfather,
Gustav ANDERSSON was born in Sweden in 1830. He emigrated to Norway early
in life. Somewhere in Norway he was found guilty of postal robbery and
served time in a Norwegian prison. He and his wife were very good at keeping
this a secret no one knew of this until I begin checking church records
in his native Sweden. church where it was recorded) Now I am looking for
details. We do know that he married a girl, Anne Oldsdatter NEBYE in Trondheim
in 1869 and they left the next day for the USA. Anne was born in Elverum,
the dau. of Ole Halstensen PAULSHAUG, the adopted dau. of her mother' husband,
Johan Jensen Verstre GRUNDSET. At the time of Anne's marriage she was living
on the NEBYE farm, near Tynset. I would like to know where are the "federal"
prisons located in this area of Tynset and Trondheim. I would also be interested
in corresponding with anyone with these surnames or from these areas. Keep
up the good work! From a fellow Texan

My maiden name was MELVOLD - I am searching for information on my relatives.
I know that one branch of the MELVOLD family changed their name to MELVILLE
in the early 1900's. My great-great grandfather Severin (Leverin) ENGELBRETSON
MELVOLD was born Aug. 11, 1833 in Aamat Prestegjeld, Norway. He married
Valborg TOLLE(F)SDOTTER (born August 10, 1840). One of their sons was Wilhelm
(William) LEVERIN MELVOLD, born November 6, 1877 in Lammestecles, Norway
(Tromheim). Valborg died November 12, 1877 - probably from complications
of child birth. Wilhelm came to the U.S. in 1890 and settled in Folden,
Minnesota(?). Severin remarried in 1888 to Rebekka BRUUM (either in Norway
or after he immigrated to the U.S.). Severin died in Vining, Minnesota
on October 24 (year unknown) after fathering 13 children between his two
wives. He was a founding father of the Folden Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Wilhelm married Anna Francis Grace STURM on July 11, 1908 in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Her parents Anton STURM & Mary MAHLMAN came from Germany (Bavaria &
Hamburg/Hannover). Their only son Wilfred Anton MELVOLD was my grandfather.
He was born December 30, 1911 in Ashland, Wisconsin and died February 24,
1988 in Torrance, California. I would love to link up with anyone having
additional information on the MELVOLD (MELVILLE) family. Thank you

Researching ancestors from Hurdal & Nannestad in Akershus County.
Names include Hans PEDERSEN, Inger Marie CHRISTOFFERSDATTER, Poul PEDERSEN,
and Karl PEDERSEN. Some of this family emigrated starting in 1857 and the
last came in 1885. Most settled first in Fillmore County, MN. Hans &
family came last and settled in Cottonwood County, MN. Poul & Karl
later moved to Cottonwood County abt 1875. Other surnames connected to
this family include HALVORSEN and SETER. They too first came to southern
MN before scattering. I have over 1400 names in my family tree and looking
for more. Will be pleased to share with others.

I am taking an address off a letter dated Sept, 1913, and the rest
of the address is Bergens Stift, Norway. I believe this is the Norway name
of my grandfather, who became a Larsen upon coming to America. I believe
his first name is Ernest, and he became a Lutheren minister in Minneapolis.
Our name was changed to Lawson sometime in the 1920's but grandpa remained
a Larsen. I'm looking for any links to grandpa, that would establish his
place of birth, date of birth, and any family roots around Voss, Norway.
Thank you.

I am 1/4 Norwegian and my grandfather is a full blooded Norwegian.
His name is Louis John STADHIEM, Jr. His father, of course, was Louis John
Stadhiem and his mother's name was Evelyn HELLE. Evelyn's father's name
was John Helle. John's father was Ole Helle who came to the U.S. in 1857.
Ole Helle was from a farm they called Helle in Valdres, Norway. One of
my distant cousins made a genealogy of the Helle side of my family and
traced it all the way back to the middle ages. I would like to learn more
about the Stadhiem side of my family.

Wow, I'm really impressed. This web site is REALLY good. I'm searching
for my father's ancestors who originated from Folldal, Østerdalen.
I've found a lot, but I'm now searching for people related to Lars Johannesson
SLÅEN, born 1756. I do know a lot, because I've got the Folldal bygdebøker....
But I'm interested in some new information. Espescially about the immigrants
to America... Kari R.

Great web page. My Grandfather, Joseph Edvin Olson HUSOM (after the
farm he was from in Norway) was an immigrant from Norway. I am just starting
to research. Thanks for this great web page
