From Oral tradition, Ole's parents brought six youngest children to America and left six in Norway to send for later. Now knowledge of their coming to America. My 84 year-old second cousin visited with me today (she is very sharp - you'd be surprised that she's in her 80's) and she told me this information. She has tracked some of the family tree on her side (her father and my grandfather had the same mother but different fathers--Grandma Barbara was married three times and widowed three times) back to Norway as well as tracking down her husband's family in Norway. She didn't know the names of Ole's two brothers but she did know that one brother was never heard from again after leaving Ole in Wisconsin. He was born 10-29-1839 to Thord HALVORSEN (HALVORSSON) STRIKEN and Maren Gurine REIERSDATTER (REJERSDATTER) of Holla (Holden) parish, Telemark. Reier emigrated to the US in July 1867, landing in Quebec, Canada. He and his wife Ingri (Ingerid/Inger) HALVORSDATTER UGGE settled in Pope County, MN. Upon settling in MN, Reier changed his last name to THORSON. They brought into this world 11 children. Any info prior to their emmigration to the US would be appreciated. I have been searching (without any luck) for Norwegian family information on the following individuals: Nils Nielsen (Neilsen, Nelson), born in Norway, in 1826, and Helena (Helene, Helina) Hammerstad? Nielsen, born in Norway, in 1830-1832). They are my gr-gr-grandparents. Nils and Helena were married in Norway in 1856, at where I think is Stavanger, (old family records show Stanga? or Stange?). They had two children born in Norway: Hans, in 1860, and Ludvick (Ludwig), in 1863. Four other children, Nels, Hulda, Albert and unknown, were born at Hale Township, Wisconsin, after 1865. They emigrated from Stavanger, Norway, by railroad to Tromso, Norway, then travelled by ship to the USA, entering this country somewhere in the gulf region. They then came by railroad from there to Chicago, Illinois, (arriving July 4, 1865), and finally made their way to Hale Township, Wisconsin, where they settled and changed their last name to Nelson. Helena had a sister (Olivea Hammerstad) who along with a brother also emigrated to America shortly after Nils and his family. The Hammerstads finally settled in the Osseo, Wisconsin, area. I have tried numerous sources for records and have been unable to track this family back to Norwegian relatives. I am searching for information about the area of Norway my grandparents immigrated from in approximately 1903. They came from Bronnoysund in what I believe is the Helgeland region. Also Trondalag comes up when I look at maps. My grandfather's name was Jens CHRISTIANSON and my grandmothers name was Sanna Severson. They adopted the last name of TRALNES when they arrived in the USA. This was the name of the farm that they came from. My "baby book" lists Jens' parents as Christian CHRISTIANSON and Anne JENSEN. My grandmother's parents were Severet SEVERSON and Hermine ANDRESEN. Severet's parents were Andrios SIMONSEN and Bolette SIMSONEN. My grandparents passed on in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Both were 86 when they died. They had six sons and one daughter. The children collectively had six daughters. I am one of them. Only us grand daughters are living today. The TRALNES name only survived for two generations in this country. I have never found anyone with that last name. Any information from Norway would be greatly appreciated as I plan to visit there one day soon. |

He became a sea captain of several merchant sailing ships. In 1879 he gave up sailing and emigrated to America with his wife (Georgine HOSTVET) and 4 kids and settled in Rushford, MN, where he changed his name to JOHN NASH. His son Andrew NASH is my grandfather. My other maternal ggrandfather was Isaac ABRAHAMSON who was born in Skein, Norway in 1831. He emigrated in 1853 and settled in Houston, MN where he owned a store. In 1859 he married Isabelle ANDERSON who was also born in Norway but I don't know where. His parents name was Nikolai Ringkjøp Thorbergsen and Olufine Olsdatter. My grandfather, Ludvig Nikolaisen was born in 1891, and was his best friend. My grandfather told that the family in Norway only recived two letters, or postcard from him, after he left Norway and settled in USA. The information says that he married in USA. The parents try, but didn't get any contact with him, maybe he leave and settled in another states in USA. We don't get his adress, where he lived when he came over there, and nobody from our district have any information about his life in USA.
