She married Soren George Daniel DeFinne Von Krogh Hall in Chicago, IL in late 1880's. Her husband was from Flekkefjord, where his grandmother was thr proprietor of Madam Hall's Hotel. His parents sold the hotel in the early to mid 1880s. He then emimigrated to Chicago with his older brother, William Leonard Hall. They had several older sisters who remained in Norway. He had at least one sister: VALBERG DAHL DREESEN, born 11/20/1893 in Norway; and at least one brother: OLAF J. DAHL, born 2/10/1892 in Tvedestrand, Norway. My great-grandfather supposedly deserted the family after he had brought them to America and he may have returned to Norway. Mary passed away in the early seventies and George is still alive and 98 years. Mary and George were married in Florida, moved to Indiana at some point, because my dad was born there, then moved to a town named Preemption, in ILLinois. Sorry, I think I was a bit too quick in writing my entry the other day ( I was taken a bit by surprise) so I will try again.. I am looking for my great-aunt LOUISE (or LOVISE) CHRISTIANSEN born 1878 in Kristiania (now Oslo). She crossed the Atlantic on the Thingvalla Line's "Hekla "", leaving Kristiania on the 3 Sept 1896 with Chicago as the ultimate destination . She would have arrived Ellis Island some two weeks later She married someone named POWERS, but Powers must either have died or they divorced. She later married FRANK DREW and assumed the name LOVA DREW and obtained a certain reknown as an opera-singer and pianist. She died from cancer of the stomach in a Chicago hospital on May 10 the 1928, and was buried in Chicago on May 13 th. An obituary was published in a Chicago paper shortly afterwards paying tribute to her musical talents. She left a daughter (or step-daughter) named JUNE born 18 June 1913. I assume that June's surname was Powers, but it may have been Drew. I am also looking for a great-uncle named PEDER (PER) CARLSEN born i Kiristianina 8 June 1890. He emigrated at an age of approximately 20, changed his name to PETE OVESEN, and probably went to Canada where he may have established his own delivery-service. On the back of a photo it says "Pete Ovesen, delivery service Prince Rupert, BC Canada". The photo is taken of him in front of a house no 248. Later, I am told, he became a janitor or care-taker with General Electric in Chicago, and they lived in METROPOLE STREET. They had a relation or friend called JOSEPHINE and her grand-dauguter RUTH living at or near HICHT STREET. Pete married another Norwegian immigrant , a widow (or divorcee) named MARIE, possibly from Drammen. Marie had at least one child called REIDAR possibly also a daughter called LENA, but she may instead have been Reidar's wife. Reidar had two children, BILLY and JULIE born around 1944 and 1947, give or take a couple of years. PETE OVESEN died 15 January 1953, most likely in Chicago. From: Logan, Utah, USA Time: 1997-10-14 17:04:00 Comments: I have information on, but interested in increasing my knowledge of, families from the Hamar and Nes areas (Hadeland) Evanstad, Larson (from Odegaarden near Brottum; which became my present surname, Gordon); and over at Oppland the Dyste and Haugtvedt (north from Jevnaker) families. The Evanstad family is fairly well documented (we held a reunion in Norway, June and July, 1988), the Larson least documented. I made video tapes of the Hamar and Nes areas, as well as the Bennet tour route through the Peer Gynt road, through Gudbrandsdalen, Otta, west through Romsdalen, over the Trollstigen, southward to Bergen, then by rail back to Oslo. (Wow! Wonderful adventure). |

He was married to Janika Balsersdatter Humborstad. His son Albert Monsen Haugland married Helene Serine Pedersdatter Humborstad in 1911. Janika took her two children to North Dakota around the turn of the 20th century, but they returned to Norway in 1910. Albert immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in 1924. His wife and 4 of his children followed in 1930. I would like to learn more about Albert's and Helene's parents and ancestors. Thank-you. |
