Immigration paper from Hedmarken,Nes Parish, Vestli farm shows his name as Peter Olaussen. He was the son of Hans Pederson who's wife was Agnete Larsdatter (born at Svennevid). Web site from Norway shows the following (I believe these are me ancestors): a. Peder Anderson born 1819 (My great-great grandfather) b. Olas Pederson born 1851 (My great grandfather) c. Agnethe Larsdatter born 1851 (My great grandmother) Upon arrival in the US my grandfather changed his name to Peter Westlie after the family farm in Norway. He immigrated to the US from Christianna, Norway on 29 March 1901, arrived in Boston Mass on 17 April 1901 on the ship Ultavia. His wife's name was Helga Knutson who was born in Christianna, Norway. He ran away from home at 16 yrs of age (possibly from Minnesota) and went to California where he met my Father who was out on his own at 14 yrs of age. My Father introduced my Aunt to him and they married later. I have heard it said that Una indicates "first son of". Uncle Una was never called but "Uncle Tiny". He worked and made his living agong the gaint California Redwoods, trees so I always thought his nickname said he was a tiny tree for he was 6'4" and a big boned man. He was b. 4-25-1906 and died in March 1985 in Guernville, CA. How can I find out more about Tiny. Thanks. |

He was born in Larvik on 11 November 1890. He had a sister GUNDA. I believe he worked on whaling boats for some years before settling in Tasmania. Earlier this year I was given some photos and letters (written in Old Norwegian). These were mainly from his sister and JEANETTE WAALER, who I believe was his niece. These letters were written in 1920s and 1930s but they stopped suddenly. Unfortunately my great grandfather died before I was born and as yet I've been unable to get many of the letters translated. I would love to find out what happened to my family |

I'm in the (very) early stages of researching my paternal grandmother's (Caroline Slinde) family. Her father, Ole A. SLINDE, was born in Sogn around 1850 and came to Wisconsin around 1878. Her mother, Julia TOLLEFSON, was born in Sogn around 1861; arrival date in U.S. unknown. Tollefson line may also include FIMREITE. Ole's parents were Anders O. Slinde and Kathrine; Julie's parents were Soren Tollefson and Gjertrud. Any ideas, leads, etc., people have would be most welcome! All relatives with first-hand knowledge of their background have been dead for decades and I have very little to start with. I remain ever hopeful, however! |

Her parents were THORBJORN MARCUS ZAPFFE (born May 29, 1901) & NELLIE MARIE STEEN (born September 19, 1904). I have some limited information about their grandparents, parents & siblings. Although they each came from large families, my mother was their only child. Bestefar died in 1977 & Bestemor died in 1985. My mother died in 1989, (on May 17 of all days). I am unsure as to the whereabouts of all the family still living in Norway. One letter sent recently has been unanswered so far. I am very interested in learning anything about ZAPFFE & STEEN. There are other family names associated with the ancestry of my grandparents, obviously, & I am quite willing to share what I can. My mother came to Canada with my father, who is from England, in 1956. She was back to Norway a few times & even stayed as long as 1+ years with my brother when he was only 1. My family lived on the STRAUMSNES / NORDMO farm in Rossfjord, Lenvik, Troms. My grandfather had a general store for some time in Tromsø before emigrating in 1902. In connection with this family...I am descended from the famous poet - priest of Nordland...PETTER DASS b.1647 d.1717 . I am interested to hear from others also descended from this person as I have a book listing all known descendants . My grandmother, BERNTINE GUNELIE BENGTSEN ( later spelled BENTSEN ) was born in 1870 on the VIKERAUNET farm in Strinda, near Trondheim.
