of the River de Chute or the boundry of Carleton and Victoria Counties.

Included on page 55 of T.C.L Ketchum's book, History of Carleton County. "In1845 there is granted to the Right Reverend William Dollard one acre of land, part of Patrick Murphy's grant in the military settlement in the parish of Wicklow, for the purpose of a church". {Patrick Murphy would be a GGGG Uncle of mine through marriage.} I can't seem to remember where I read this but it was the only Catholic Church and burial ground around Wicklow Parish and the adjoining Aroostock County in Maine. Therefore there are many families from Maine also in the burial ground. There is also a <photo> of the adjoining cemetery. |
