A pair of daguerrotypes of Nancy and John Dixon, taken probably just before or after they were married has survived. John was a sailor on the Great Lakes. Possibly they wanted pictures of each other to have during the long summers when John was away, sailing. Daguerrotypes are small and easily carried, though fragile and can be damaged. This picture of young Nancy is one of the pair.
