Rev  McAskie, a retired Presbyterian minister, died suddenly of heart failure on Saturday, aged 65 years. The deceased had, a few years since, been stricken with paralysis, and while not entirely incapacitated from officiating, relinquished his regular position at Port Carbon and came to Philadelphia, where he has since resided. Mr McAskie was a native of Ireland, where he entered the ministry,. Some 10 or 12 years ago he came to this country and became pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church at Norristown, and latterly at Port Carbon. Since then he has been heard at different times in different churches. He leaves a widow and 6 children. MCGOVERN, John--Bridget--James--Catherine--William -------------------------------------------------------------Puberttttt@aol.com

McGowan-McGowen ---------------------- 1843 - 1974 Roger McGowan was naturalized in Pottsville on September 11, 1848 which means he arrived from Dublin, Ireland probably at least five years in advance of that, circa 1843. Sometime after September 11, 1848 and probably prior to 1855, he married Eliza or Elizabeth Farrell. They had ten children but only five survived to adulthood. The son Roger J. McGowen later married Margaret E. (possibly Lavelle) and raised a child Mary Catharine.  Roger died in November of 1918 and at the time of his death owned property at 600 West Bacon, 438 and 440 West Savory, and on Centre Street at the Arch in Mount Carbon. The son Francis J. McGowen left Pottsville and moved to Philadelphia but because he owned property in Pottsville at the time of his death in 1914 his will was probated in Pottsville.  His property was 608 West Bacon and also on West Savory. The son John McGowen remained in Pottsville and shows up on the 1900 census as living at the 608 West Bacon St. address with his mother Eliza FarrellMcGowen.  He was a fireman and in 1900 was not married.  No further
information about when he was born although the 1900 census lists him as 34 which means he must have been born in 1866. The son Joseph F. left Pottsville and settled in Philadelphia.  He married a Catharine Dougherty but I don't know where that
occurred. Eliza Farrell McGowen died July 7, 1900 in
Pottsville.  She was approximately 82 years old.Roger McGowan, the patriarch, died August 30, 1898. ----------------------------------Rita.M.Armstrong@USA.dupont.com
