On this 30 th day of    May         A. D. 190 1, personally appeared before me,
     J. D. Kernodle    , C. S. C., in and for the State and County aforesaid,
          Elizabeth J. Ray                       , age    62            ,years, and a resident at
 Graham                    post-office in said County and State, and who being duly sworn,
makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension under the provisions of an act entitled "An Act to amend
Chapter 198 of the Laws of 1889, for the relief of certain Confederate Soldiers and Widows," ratified March 2, 1901; that she is 
the widow of the late                  John Ray                                                                    
who enlisted in Co.     G   , 3rd    Reg. N. C. State Troops, on or about the    15 th    day of  
         March                                  
, 186 , to serve in the armies of the late Confederate States.
She further states that she was married to said Soldier or Sailor before the first day of April, 1865, and she has never re-married; 
that she is, and has been for twelve months immediately preceding this Application for Pension, a bona fide resident of North
Carolina; that she holds no office under the United States, or under any State or county, from which she is receiving the sum of
three hundred dollars as fees or as salary annually; that she is not worth in her own right, or the right of her late husband;
property at its assessed value for taxation to the amount of five hundred dollars ($500). Nor has she disposed of property of such
value by gift or voluntary conveyance since the 11th of March, 1885.

who resides at               Burlington                               post-office, in said County and State, physician – in good
standing, whom I know to be respectable and entitled to credit, and being by me duly sworn, say    that   they are 
acquainted with                                                    Elizabeth J. Ray                                  , the widow of the late
         John Ray                                       , of Co.                           3 rd                         
Regiment North Carolina State Troops, and that they believe her to be the identical person she represents herself to be, and
that the facts set forth in her affidavit are correct to  the best of their knowledge and belief, and that they have no interest, direct or indirect, in this claim.

     We certify that we have carefully examined the application of                 Elizabeth J. Ray                 
the widow of the late            John Ray                          , who  enlisted in Company               ,
        3rd                      Regiment, North Carolina State Troops, for a pension under the provisions of an act entitled "An Act
to amend chapter 198 of the Laws of 1889, for the relief of certain Confederate Soldiers and Widows," ratified March 2,1901, and
the proofs filed in support thereof; that we are satisfied that the said                 Elizabeth J. Ray                      
is the widow of the late             John Ray                    who enlisted in Company              G                       ,
       3           Regiment of North Carolina State Troops, on or about the         15                   day of    Mar            186 2 ,
We certify the following allegations set forth in her application to be true, namely: That she has never re-married; that she is, and has been for twelve months immediately preceding this Application for Pension, a bona fide resident of North Carolina;
that she holds no office under the United States, or under any State or County, from which she is receiving the sum of three hundred dollars as fees or as salary annually; that she is not worth in her own right, or the right of her late husband; property
at its assessed value for taxation to the amount of five hundred dollars ($500). Nor has she disposed of property of such value by
gift or voluntary conveyance since the 11th of March, 1885, and therefore her application is correct and just under the act.
