Here is some more information on the Clapps and Whitemans who migrated to Clark Co, IN. My information is on the first three generation down from Valentine Clapp, son of John Phillip Clapp, and Maria Rogers. At the end of this, I’ve also listed the first three generations of Mathias Weidemann (Whiteman) to show how much of that clan intermarried with the Clapp, Cortner, Amick and Albright families in Clark Co, IN.

Which Mrs. Gertrude Isley Rode to Death Wednesday May Get Bond.
J. J. HENDERSON HAS BEEN RETAINED BY MAN
Knoxville Commercial Man, Whose Car Figured in the Collision, Will Be Here For the Hearing-Ryan Claims Mule Responsible.
An effort was being made today to induce Judge W. Luther Cates to release under $2.500 bail James J. Ryans, driver of the Oakland touring car in which Mrs. Gertrude Isley rode to death Tuesday night in an automobile collision south of the city on Highway 100.
Judge Cates, intimated that he might permit the release of Ryans under bail because, in his belief, death stalked a wild ride upon which it might be difficult to fix individual responsibility. Attorney J. J. Henderson has been retained by Ryans.
At the same time Judge Cates made it appear that i£ he did permit bail for the driver of the death car, it would be no less than $2,500 -to guarantee his appearance for preliminary hearing as soon as Joe Hackett is able to appear. Hackett received a broken leg.
Mrs. Isley, whose funeral service was held today, died instantly when thrown through the windshield of the car. Ryans escaped serious injury as did Miss Bessie Hall, fourth member of the party.
    S. S. Scudder, Knoxville, Tenn., commercial man, whose Chevrolet coupe figured in the collision, will be here for the hearing. He claims to have tried to avoid the collision by pulling his car from the highway upon the shoulder. Ryans claims a stray mule on the highway confused him and that both cars were trying to avoid hitting the mule when they crashed.

Comrades of Fire Department Escort for James C. Isley
Impressive Service for Veteran Member of Department Held at 9:30 O’clock This Morning.
Carrying out a request he had made to members of the family, comrades of the local fire department today escorted to Pine Hill cemetery and interred the body of James Currv Isley, veteran of the department whose death occurred Sunday afternoon.
An impressive, funeral service was held at Burke's funeral home on Front street at 9:30 o'clock in charge of Dr. J. H. Lightboume, pastor of the First Christian church, a former pastor, Rev. P. H. Fleming, and Rev. Frank S. Blue, chaplain of the firemen. A quartet rendered music.
When the funeral cortege left the home the fire bell tolled at intervals until the procession moved slowly down South Main street to the cemetery. Business was at a standstill in the business district, with hundreds of merchants, salesmen and women shoppers standing quietly in respect to the deceased.
The large fire truck was draped and laden with flowers, mute but loving testimony of the position the young man held in the community. His 15 years of service with the department elicited high praise, a fireman who was courageous, never faltering in the face of danger when duty called—picking the hot, blaze or smoke-filled spots to render service.
Pallbearers were members of the department: Hobart Steel, Keith Moore, Devoe Moran, Charles Herbin, Grover Clark and Robert Tickle. Other members of the department had charge of the flowers.
Representatives of the Graham department were here for the service, while others volunteered to remain on duty to answer an alarm should one come in during the funeral hour. A large American flag draped the casket, symbolic of his service to his country in the World War.
