THIRD GENERATION

THIRD GENERATION

11. George VAUGHT was born about 1745 in Augusta County, Virginia. He died on Aug 11 1835 in Wythe County, Virginia. These notes are from the book: "Descendants of Christley Vaught" Vol 1. by Helen Spurlin and Mickey Martin. Contributed by The Vaught Association.

George Vaught is a known son of Andrew Vaught and his wife Elizabeth. Item (3) above list George as teste. If he had to be 18 to be teste, then he was b by 1745. His wife was Christiana Phillippi, d/o John and Barbara (Eichelberger) Phillippi.

George and Christiana may have m about 1781. Christiana's age is consistant with a wife of third generation Vaughts, rather than second generation Vaughts. The fractur (birth certificate) for Andrew referred to previously states that the child Andrew is the s/o George and Christiana (Phillippi) Vaught, and is the grandson of Andrew Vaught and his wife Elizabeth. There is a considerable age difference between George and Christiana.

During the 1774 Shawnee Indian War, George spent 41 days in Smith's Company.

In 1775, George settled on Cripple Creek, Wy.Co., VA. George was mustered out of the Continental Army because he had a flour mill. Flour was needed and it was felt that he could serve best at home. However, in 1781, he was in Capt. Love's Co.

The will of George Vaught was dated 13 Mar 1825 and proved 11 Aug 1835. "Wife Christiana completely and fully to possess all my property. After her death sons David, John Andrew, George, Peter and Charles and dau. Mary to be paid one dollar each, they having been already provided for. My son Joseph $30.00, my sons Abraham and Jefferson to have all my land and my mill with the exception of one acre and a saw mill that I have given to my two sons Charles and Joseph. Sons Abraham and Jefferson to pay to my two daughters Elizabeth and Christiana $280.00" (see page 244 Kirkwood, in the section recording "A Partial History of the Vaught Family" by Judge Edgar S. Vaught)11. George VAUGHT9 was born about 1745 in Augusta Co., VA. He died about 11 Aug. 1835 in Wythe Co., VA. (Pp. 7-8, from MS, Feb. 1, 1994, by Helen Spurlin, now deceased), tentatively titled "Moving in on the Cherokees" or "Neighbors to the Cherokees".)

George Vaught, s/o Andrew and Elizabeth Vaught, was b ca 1745 in Augusta Co., VA. He appears as teste on a document in 1763. (see Chalkley item 3 above) If he had to be 21 to be a "teste" then he was b ca 1742. If he only needed to be 18 then he was b ca 1745. George married Christiana Phillippi, a daughter of John and Barbara (Eichelberger) Phillippi. They married ca 1781. A deed dated 9 Oct. 1823 Wythe Co., VA has the following "...between Christopher Phillipy and Elizabeth his wife, George Vaught and Christiana his wife, Christian Vaught and Elizabeth his wife, Frederick Copenhaver and Eva his wife, Henry Cullop and Caty his wife, Henry Baugh and Margaret his wife, Peter Wisely and Magdalena his wife, Mary Amey, John Steffy and Rosanah his wife, and Barbara Phillipy, heirs apparent of John Phillipy deceased of the one part....."
The Eichelberger genealogy is included in "The Rosenbaum - Rosenbalm Family of Southwest Virginia" by Clifford R. Canfield. Christiana Phillippi was b 12 Dec. 1763 in PA. (see "The Phillippi Family Tree" by Royer and Strahley) Christiana's age is consistant with a wife of third generation Vaughts ranther than 2nd generation Vaughts. There is a considerable difference in age between George and Christiana.
