GERMANS - WARD 10, BOSTON - 1850 CENSUS

GERMANS in BOSTON RESOURCE CENTER

1850 CENSUS - BOSTON - WARD 10
INDEX - "GERMAN-BORN"

ABOUT THE 1850 CENSUS PROJECT

I decided that it was finally time to "get serious" re: the search for Nicholas DORR and his relatives in the 1850 Census for Boston. At the Family History Center, I ordered the "most likely" roll of microfilm that would contain Nicholas, his sisters and his parents - Wards 9 and 10.

I started going through that film, frame by frame, seaching for anyone who looks like "mine". As you might expect, I did NOT find "my Nicholas"...

"But", I thought, "why stop at just DORRs? Why not make an index to ALL 'German-born' in ALL Wards of Boston in 1850?"

Thus was born the GERMANS in BOSTON RESOURCE CENTER's first project for 1999!

The 1850 CENSUS PROJECT, when completed, will have two sections: a SURNAME FINDING AID and the actual SURNAME INDEX. Use the FINDING AID to locate the WARD NUMBER and HOUSEHOLD NUMBER for a given SURNAME. Then use the W# and HH# to locate the SURNAME on the SURNAME INDEX page.

Only WARD 10 has been indexed; as other wards are worked on, the information will be added to the project and the FINDING AID will be updated.
