Samuel Cole

Samuel Cole of TN

My great-great grandparents were Samuel Cole (born about 1790 in NC)and Elizabeth Holcombe Cole(born about 1795). They were parents of seven sons and two daughters. I have documented some of the children on the 1850 Federal Census and found marriage records prior to that in Henry County TN. All the children were born somewhere in TN. We cannot find anything identifible on Samuel and Elizabeth until 1860.

I believe this family has melungeon heritage because I was told by my grandmother that the family was Black Dutch and Indian. Every avenue possible has been explored to find Samuel and Elizabeth (Holcombe)Cole to no avail. It could be that Samuel and Elizabeth's fathers both married Melungeons. I get good leads within some of the NC Coles which drop dead. It is possible we are related to Reuben Cole as three of his sons came into the area of Western Kentucky where my ancestors were. We think it possible that these three sons, Joshua, Caleb and Joseph G. Cole may have married Melungeons.
