General Information on the List:

You must turn off html before you send your message, as Rootsweb does not accept messages in html -- they will be returned to you without going to the list. If you find that you have a problem sending messages to the list, there are two things to check. First, check that you are using the proper address. DO NOT send messages intended for the list to MOSER-L-request; you must use [email protected] instead. Second, check to see that the e-mail address under which you subscribed to the list is the same e-mail address from which you are trying to send your message. The use of aliases is one possible cause for problems experienced in sending messages.

I was the original list admin for the MOSER-L and MOSER-D surname lists when they were created, and started this mailing list homepage at that time. Responsibility for the MOSER mailing list has since been turned over to Shelly Platz. You may reach her at [email protected]. I will keep this page up and running until such a time as Shelly asks me to take it down.

Surname Variants:

A surname variant is one where the name is spelled differently but nevertheless refers to the same family. In some cases variants exist because of errors made by persons transcribing handwritten records (I have seen MOSES transcribed incorrectly as MOSER, though I haven't seen errors in the other direction....yet). In some cases variants exist because census takers or other persons wrote a name the way it sounded, rather than the way it should be spelled (I don't have any examples myself, but I know it happened). Lastly, surname variants exist because people, from time to time, choose to change the way their name is spelled (I also do not have any examples for MOSER, but I know this happened with other surnames).

Being a Moses researcher myself, I have no data on Moser -- this needs to come from you. Send me your immigrant listings, and I'll add them here. Please provide the name of the immigrant, when & where they were born, where they settled & when, and any other facts that may help to distinguish one from another. I would also like to add researcher names for each immigrant listed -- that way people won't be tempted to ask me about these persons (I won't have the information myself).
