You must turn off html before you send your message, as Rootsweb does not accept messages in html -- they will be returned to you without going to the list. If you find that you have a problem sending messages to the list, there are two things to check. First, check that you are using the proper address. DO NOT send messages intended for the list to DRESSER-L-request; you must use [email protected] instead. Second, check to see that the e-mail address under which you subscribed to the list is the same e-mail address from which you are trying to send your message. The use of aliases is one possible cause for problems experienced in sending messages.

A surname variant is one where the name is spelled differently but nevertheless refers to the same family. In some cases variants exist because of errors made by persons transcribing handwritten records. In some cases variants exist because census takers or other persons wrote a name the way it sounded, rather than the way it should be spelled. Lastly, surname variants exist because people, from time to time, choose to change the way their name is spelled.
Known variants of the DRESSER surname include, in alphabetical order (some of these come from Jim Dresser's page):
If you know of other surname variants, please send them to me at [email protected], with an indication of the circumstances under which they appeared.

Focus: Jim is the best-known Dresser researcher
there is, with the most data. He stays quite busy as a park ranger in Groton,
Vermont, during spring, summer & fall, but spends his winter months helping
us lost Dresser's try to find our roots. I suppose his focus is the main
Dresser line from John Dresser of Rowley, Massachusetts, but he collects and
shares data on all Dresser's. His web pages are your best first point of
contact when you begin to search your Dresser roots.
