Samuel Mehorter [db#22147] was born cir1795 in Ireland. It is not known whether Samuel ever came to the United States, but it is said that his wife Mary (Wall or) Watt [db#22148] and their children came to Philadelphia, PA about 1846.

Mary is listed in the 1860 census of Philadelphia (Ward 1) living with her son-in-law John Henry [db#22161]. Mary is listed in the Philadelphia City Directories of both 1861 & 1862 as "widow" and living at 1529 Fitzwater. In the 1865 City Directory she is found living at 1703 Webster.

Nine (9) children are ascribed to Samuel & Mary, all born in Ireland, between abt1828 and 1842.

.....Son John Watt Mehorter [db#22151] is listed as a ‘shoemaker" in the City Directories of 1861, 1865 & 1866.

.....Son Samuel Mehorter [db#22157] is listed as "laborer" in the Directories of 1863, 1864, 1865 & 1866 as well as the 1860 census.

.....Son Hugh Mehorter [db#22153] is listed as "tailor" in the 1862 Philadelphia City Directory.
