I am trying to trace the ancestors of HUGH MCWHIRTER (b. 1807). He m. AGNES FERRIER on 17-Jan-1829 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. I would also love any other info on this family—occupations, history, etc. There are so many MCWHIRTERs from Ayr, I am having trouble figuring out which one belongs to who.

I am looking for information on WILLIAM MCWHORTER (b. 1745) of PA, specifically on his service during the Revolutionary War. I have seen many references that he and his brother, ROBERT, served from 1777-1779, but have been unable to find a unit in which WILLIAM may have fought. Does anyone know which unit(s) WILLIAM was assigned to, and if any type of proof of his service is available through NARA?

Also, the descendants/siblings of SAMUEL DEPRU MCCLURE  who married ELIZABETH ANN “Betsey” MCWHORTER. A long while back, 10 to 20 years, I came across two notes in books. Both have puzzled me since then. One was the will of THOMAS MCWHIRTER 1769 of Middle Octoraro Creek, Lancaster, PA (on border with Chester co.) – wife deceased, sons: ALEXANDER, HUGH & MOSES. As a descendant of WILLIAM>WILLIAM?>GEORGE MARLIN MCWHIRTER>ALEXANDER HAMILTON MCWHIRTER>GEORGE MARLIN MCWHIRTER>WADE HAMPTON MCWHIRTER>ERNEST POWELL MCWHIRTER (1906), I am still intrigued by my old cousin DAVIS’s assertion that MOSES was our forefather. I always record any MOSES for that reason. Has anyone ever reported descent from this THOMAS?

Seeking info about POLLY MCWHORTER who m. JOHN ARMSTRONG. I don’t know the dates of birth or marriage, but one of their children, ANNIE ARMSTRONG, married ANTHONY VAUGHAN in 1765. POLLY and JOHN lived and probably died in Orange co., NY. His will was probated in 1797. The only info I have about POLLY MCWHORTER has come from the Orange County (NY) Genealogy Society. One source says he married a Mrs. SARAH MCWHORTER. Were she and POLLY the same person? Any info about POLLY/MRS. SARAH MCWHORTER, or JOHN ARMSTRONG and his children,  would be appreciated.

My grandfather listed his mother as VICTORIA MCWHORTER (b. 1861; d. Sep-1895)(“M. V. MASSEY” on her gravestone). His father  was WILLIAM PERMEANUS MASSEY. I can find no record of their marriage although the grave of their infant son is in Doty Springs, Attala co., MS. VICTORIA lived in Kosciusko until her death. A local genealogist noted that VICTORIA was a sister to EASTER MINSCHEW. WILLIAM & VICTORIA are listed in the 1880 Attala co., MS census with their 1st son, JOHN R. MASSEY. Evidently they were listed in another census living in the home of ISAAC MCWHORTER in Attala co., MS. A handwritten note (author unknown) states that VICTORIA was M. V. SOLOMON and married W. P. MASSEY 2 or 12-May-1878. Other info indicates that FRANCES MCWHORTER (ISAAC’s dau.) who m. R. SOLOMON, was VICTORIA’s mother. A FANNIE SOLOMON is listed as head of household in the 1870 census with dau. VICTORIA age 9; she lived next to PINKNEY B. MCWHORTER. I have not been able to confirm any of the above marriages or anything at all abt R. SOLOMON. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
