In 1875 James Shelton McWhirter of Union co., SC [grandson of James McWhorter born 1760 on Rockfish River, Albemarle co., VA] moved to Hunt co., TX with his wife Jane and 5 children.They settled in the South Sulfer Community a few miles from Wolfe City, TX.
They were farmers and ranchers.
