Comments: .....He is listed as "black" in the 1900 census. Though born in Onandaga co., New York, he must have removed to Michigan for a while as four of his children were born there from 1881 to 1889. The rest of his children were born in New York from 1893 on. In the 1880 census Peter age 33, unmarried, "makes baskets", both parents born in New Jersey, was head of a household in Syracuse, Onandaga co., New York that included "Simon McQuarter", black, age 75 (born in NJ) and Simon's wife Ann, black, age 75 (born in NJ). Are these his parents? Also living in the household was an "Elizabeth C. Dickerson", black, age 21. Did she become his wife?
