My Sutton Family

The love of genealogy has brought me together with my Sutton cousins: Gordon, Bob, and Larry Sutton. They have been pursuing the Sutton genealogy for some years. Much of this information comes from their Sutton Genealogy book. Gordon and Bob organize the annual Sutton reunion held in August.

The Sutton family has provided my most loving memories and deepest connections. When I think back to my childhood, there my most pleasant memories abide - in the homes of my Sutton relatives. This side of my family was quite close and many of the descendants live in northwestern Pennsylvania where I spent my early years.

This chart starts with my 5th great grandfather, Thomas Sutton. His descendant, Daniel Douane Sutton was my great grandfather. I have many fond memories of great grandfather and great grandmother Sutton.

Viola Sutton Proper

This is the line of my maternal grandmother Viola Sutton Proper. Gram met her husband Bill when they were 10 years old. He came to her home to buy milk. They married shortly before her 19th birthday and were married for 58 years.

Gram was a talented musician who taught herself to play the piano, guitar, and accordion. She was an excellent cook and kept an immaculate home that was ready for guests at all times. And, they had frequent guests from the many friends they made from Canada to Georgia. In addition, she was very close to her extensive family. Gram loved to travel and they camped out in a small travel trailer. Gram often accompanied Gramp when he was out in the woods cutting trees.

Gram also loved to grow flowers, especially violets. Gram and Gramp also dealt in antiques. After they had gathered a collection, they would have auctions at their home in Grand Valley, Pennsylvania.. Gram loved to play cards and board games. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She married WILLIAM ELMER PROPER 16 August 1928 in Westfield, Chautauqua Co, New York, son of LEONARD PROPER and ANNA BUSH. He was born 13 June 1907 in Tidioute, Warren Co., Pennsylvania, and died 15 September 1986 in Grand Valley, Warren County, Pennsylvania.
