OBITUARY OF JOHN MURCHISON (1840-1924) Source unknown PROMINENT CITIZEN DIED LAST MONDAY Capt. John Murchison, aged 83 years, died at his home in this city last Monday night after an illness of only a few deys of pneumonia. Mr. Murchison became ill last Friday night, and his condition gradually became worse until the end. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the home, Revs. Chapman and Kidd having charge of the services. Burial services were conducted at the cemetery under the auspices of Farmersville Lodge No. 214, A.F.& A.M. Capt. Murchison had been a resident of this community for 60 years, and during this long time he had been prominent in the various affairs of the section, and in passing he leaves his impress upon the lives of many good friends and acquaintances. He was a consistent christian and a member of the Baptist church. For many years he had been an honored member of the local Masonic Lodge. He served with honor through the Civil war as a captain of Co. H, 40th Georgia Regiment. Capt. Murchison was born in Carrolton county, Ga., on Oct. 19, 1840. In his early manhood he was married to Miss Frances Battle in Georgia, and this faithful wife survives her husband. Had Mr. Murchison lived til Dec. 3 they would have celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary. Mr. Murchison came to Farmersville sixty years ago, and has since resided here. Five children survive their father: Mrs. J. D. Leeper of Madill, OK, Mrs. W. D. Monroe of Houston, Mrs. W. L Gunnell of Farmersville, F. J. Murchison of Farmersville, and A. H. Murchison of Vernon.
