TINKLING SPRING PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH FISHERSVILLE. VIRGINIA October 1. 1953 Mrs. Wade H. Whitley 525 Vine Street Paris, Kentucky Dear Mrs. Whitley, Thank you for your letter. We appreciate your suggestions of prospects for our proposed book. The Frame and Gibson family baptisms are copied from a Photo print of the original as follows: John Frame baptized children: Mary 21 February 1742 William 8 September 1745 John Decenber 1748 William Frame baptized children: Esther 23 March 1746 Jennet 19 July 1747 Elisabeth 2 July 1749 Alexander Gibson baptized children: James 7 August 1744 Christian August 1746 Mary 15 September 1748 Robert Gibson baptized children: Mary 15 March 1743 Elisabeth 19 March 1745 William 3 May 1747 (a twin) Isabella 3 May 1747 (a twin) James 19 March 1749 There was a James Frame listed on Tinkling Spring subscription lists 1761 and 1766. James Frame bought of William Beverley 220 acres of land about five miles west of Tinkling Spring on 22 February 1749. Robert Gibson purchased two tracts, 370 and 190 acres, from William Beverley in 1754. This land was located about a half mile south of the Tinkling Spring. A fresh-water cave on that land is still called "Gibson's Hole". The one volume of Rev. John Craig's Record of Baptisms, 1740-1749, is the only such found. Whether he discontinued the record or kept a record that was lost is not known. The churches here have no other baptismal records until after 1840. We have here only subscription lists and fragmentary minutes between 1750 and 1840. I do not find in the Record of Baptisms 1740-1749 any mention of David Gibson, either as father or child. The Transylvania Presbytery was organized, I believe, about 1780,and before that Hanover Presbytery of Virginia handled the churches in (Page 2) Mrs. Wade H. Whitley the Carolinas, Kentucky and Virginia.. In our old cemetery there is a marker to "Elizabeth Ray Gibson, Our Mother, Wife of Overton Gibson, Born April 21, 1804 /Died/ May 29, 1864. I am sorry not to be able to help you more. These facts may help you, but they do not answer your question about Elizabeth Frame born about 1780. Thank you for the stamps.
