My Genealogy Quest

Left to Right: Martha, Pete, Sid, Mama, & Billy.

I want to Thank My Sister-in-Law, Lynelle, Billy Roy's wife, for all of the Research she has done on our Family Tree. She deserves as much Credit for This Work as I do.
I love You Nell!!

Our earliest know ancestor from abroad came from England, but we had a few who were here "before" the Europeans came. Native American ancestors, this is what started me in my genealogy quest in the first place in 1968 when I was 26 years old. They are the hardest people to research bar none!

Our Family's oral history has always said, "we are Indian." So I grew up knowing we were, just didn't know where it came from. Every relative that I have corresponded with through the years have all said the same thing. "Yes, I was told we are Indian." Well, After I grew up and all my grandparents had passed on, I decided to find out "who" was Indian! Since I was always told I was... I wanted to know "how" was I?? Where did this Indian ancestor come from?? What tribe?? Where did they live?? Through the years I have heard everything from Pocahontas (from one family member), to "I'm not sure, but I know we are"!!

Family information led me to find that we have Cherokee in our "Myers" line as G-Grandfather Marion Myers was said to enroll on the Dawes Rolls in 1906, but the papers were lost in G-Grandmother Martha Ann William Myers' trunk, and I can not find any official records at this time. I know that Mark Myer's father, Massey Myers, spoke Cherokee and Choctaw fluently. I find a Marion Myers on the Gunion Miller Roll as rejected. I saw these papers when I was a child. WHY, WHY, didn't I know I would want them so bad after I grew up!!!!

Recently I was told my G-Grandmother, Sadie Ann Garner Rowell always said there was Indian in our "Rowell" line on Daddy's side. I'm still searching for that, possibly Jane Dunn.

Then we have Choctaw and Cherokee in our "Southern" line also on my mother's side. But at least I know "who" one of them are! I think you will agree with me if you are descended from Wrizopa Southern , who was married to Robert Womack. You can check out Robert and Rispey's photo then you can be the judge for yourself I reckon.

So, after 30 years, I still do not have any paper proof, (I know.. that's the story everyone tells *G*) but have enough circumstantial evidence to prove to "me" at least, which is all I ever needed anyway. All 16 Great-Grandparents were in Louisiana between 1842 to ca.1867. Therefore having no ties with any tribes. We have been here ever since.

Now back to our earliest known ancestor who decided to come to the New World. This much I "DO" know for a fact! Col. John Flood came to Jamestown Va. aboard the "Swan" in 1610. He was one of the 13 original settlers of Jamestown Va. who survived the perils faced by these early pioneers. They were declared Ancient Planters on 5 March 1623 by the General Assembly, which provided, "That all old planters that were here before or came in at the coming of Sir Thomas Gates, they and their posterity shall be exempted from personal service to the wars and any public charge (church duties excepted)" Each received 100 acres of land in Surry Co. Va..

Looks like they were standing there when the "Mayflower" landed saying, "Where Y'all been?"

Jamestown, Va.
Jamestown, Virginia .... the beginning.

Through the years, I have searched all my lines, working on some more than others. I've found Kings and Queens from most all of the Royal Houses of Europe. My father is descended from Elizabeth, dtr. of Joan of Acre, (dtr. of King Edward I "Longshanks" of England ) My mother is descended from Joan of Acre's other dtr. Margaret!!! Then we have Preachers, Farmers, and probably an Indian Chief, who knows. But, whether they were good or bad, they all still belong to me, and I love them each and every one. Just think! It took all these people just to make ME!!! I think I'll keep them ... because .... when you think about it ....
If only two of these people had not met each other ..... would I still be here???
