The Church is on the road which runs between Stenalees (opposite the Post Office) to the northern edge of Penwithick.

Sometime early in the 6th century, a child was born in the city of Rennes. in Britanny, who was destined to give his name to this parish just north of St. Austell. When he became a monk he was known as Urbanus or Urban. Hence we get Treverbvn (Cornish: Tref Erbyn - the place of St. Urban).

Urban came to Cornwall after hearing the missionary words of the then Prior of Bodmin. In his missionary travels around Cornwall he spent some time in Treverbyn where he met with some opposition. but was able to overcome it and establish the nucleus of a Christian colony there. The ancient church of Treverbyn formerly stood near the farm house of Treverbyn Minor, in a field non known as the "Church Meadow".

The present Church building, dedicated to St. Peter is of stone, consecrated in 1850~ and consists of chancel. nave, south porch and turret containing one bell: there are memorial windows to the Gill family. (Thomas Gill was formerly Lord of the Manor of Treverbyn), the pulpit is also a memorial. Vestries were built at the west end of the church in 1928. as a memorial to members of the church who fell in the Great War 1914-18. In the Church as has already been mentioned there are some stained glass windows dedicated to various members of the Gill Family.

Other interesting features include a new stone altar which was dedicated on 29th May 1973. Geologists from English China Clays, as it was then. collected stone from 23 historic or industrially important sites within the parish to construct the altar.

The Church. because of vandalism is often locked but the key is readily available from the New Vicarage ( Bungalow- behind the Church) . A prior telephone call (01726 850335) would prevent disappointment.
