The ancient stone cross standing in the Churchyard on the left of the South gate bears witness to an earlier mission evidenced by the name "Egloshellens" given to the nearby farm. It was probably travelling Irish monks who made a chapelry there.

The Font is dated 1 150 - 1180 and apart from this the South doorway is practically the only part of the building which shows the Norman design. Even so, it has been somewhat disturbed and modified.

The Church possesses many interesting features: The East Window, protraying the Lord's Supper set in the midst of our local industries, Clay Production and Farming; The Tanner Chapel depicting the martyrdom of St. Stephen; The fine Brewer Organ built in 1896 and recently restored; The Pulpit is made of the Pew ends when chairs replaced them in 1893.
