EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON Co., IL by John Powers:
GOODAN, Levi W. was born in Pennsylvania, taken by his parents to Bath CO KY, was a soldier from that county in the War of 1812, and after the war was married in that county to GARNER CROUCH (CINDER CROUCH). They came to Sangamon Co in 1820 or 1821 and settled at what is now Sangamon station, where they had two children, and Mrs. Goodan died there. Mr. James McCoy and Levi owned a wagon together, and each had a horse, a wife and two children and both families moved from Ketnucky inthat wagon together. Their wives were two of the six who men who came to Sangamon County that year. These were the first white women in Sangamon County. Levi later served as a Capt from Sangamon county in the Black Hawk WAr. Abraham Lincol also served as a Capt from Sangamon County in that war. Of their children: WILLIAM died in Springfield; DAVID married in Springfield to Catharine Van Nostrand and died, leaving a widow and children near Pana. Levi W. Goodan died near Pana, also.
