Contributing to RootsWeb
- How RootsWeb is Different
RootsWeb differs from most major genealogy sites, as we are committed to keeping genealogical data free on the Internet. You can access any, and every, file at RootsWeb right now.
Does it sound like a deal too good to be true? We hope so, and we hope that it shows how deep our commitment is to keep this data available to everyone. While we make this information available to everyone, it doesn't mean that there isn't an expense to us in providing that service. So we hope at some time you'll reconsider supporting our efforts.
RootsWeb's support levels start at $12 (US) a year, which we estimate as the average cost for keeping the files on-line for each of our users. That works out to $1 a month, or about the same cost as three US postage stamps each month. We think that's pretty modest, and we think you will too when you see all the resources and information that is available through RootsWeb.

- How You Can Contribute
RootsWeb would cease to exist if not for the financial support of its users. By becoming a Contributor, Sponsor, or a Donor, you help RootsWeb provide Web and FTP space on thousands of genealogical topics, mailing lists for tens of thousands of groups of genealogists with shared interests, and search engines to make huge amounts of genealogical data freely available to Internet genealogists.
Individual users may contribute financially at differing levels of support. While there are some differences in the benefits we provide at each level, fundamentally when you choose a level you're making a choice about what kind of genealogical resources you want to see brought onto the Internet. In essense your support is saying, "Let's each contribute something towards making more genealogical resources available to everyone on the Internet."
