Chat Sessions

The Meetings For Chat Sessions are on irc.rootsweb.com

You will need to down load an IRC client program, unless you are a WebTV user.
MC users have there own programs.


Windows users

For the best and most complete information on mIRC go to http://www.linuxchix.org/irc-beginners.html , this will take you to the mIRC homepage, & download in the USA, with all their info on mIRC.  Along with several links to download options. Pick a state close to your location, you can chooes either the 32 bit, or 16 bit options. If you don't know which to try, use the 16 bit.

If you would like to try a different IRC client program you can check out Tucows page for Chat clients, or Strouds Once you get it down loaded, install it in to a directory (file). You will then need to set it up for the session.
1) While you are connected to the Internet. start your mIRC program.
2) In the setup screen click on "ADD".
3) Enter the following Info into each slot.

Description: Rootsweb IRC
Server: irc.rootsweb.com
Port(s) : 6667

Click OK from here click 'connect' to hook up to the IRC server. Once you are connected simply type /list and you will see a list of the active rooms or you can type /join #OHIO this is the room we will use.
 


Macintosh users
You can down load the IRC client at http://www.ircle.com/     --  IRCLE, an IRC client for Macintosh. Requires MacOS 7.1 or newer (680x0 or PowerMac)
    OR http://www.snak.com/Snak.html -- SNAK, an IRC client for Macintosh
   Requires MacOS 7.1 or newer (680x0 or PowerMac)


WebTV users
How to do chat with webtv... on your main homepage for the username you wish to use in chat (you can't change your username , it will list you as whatever is before the @ in your email address), click on Community , on the next page, click on Chat , and then follow the directions putting in the name of the server and the port # (or use the default for the port #)
