OTHER INFORMATION

Meigs County is located on the Ohio River where the soil is both clay and sandy loam. The name is taken from R.J. Meigs, a former governor of Ohio.

When coal was discovered in the area, Pomeroy and Coalport became coal-shipping centers. Pomeroy is the current county seat, and the largest town in the county.

Industries in Meigs County include; lumber and wood products, machinery, food, non-alcoholic beverages, electric motors and relays, coal, gravel and salt. Agricultural products include; dairy, poultry, cattle, and calves.

The Meigs County Museum keeps birth & death records from 1865-1906 and marriage records from 1819-1930. Clerk of Courts has divorce and civil court records.
