OTHER INFORMATION

Marion County was organized in 1824 and named in honor of General Francis Marion of South Carolina. General Marion was named the "Swamp Fox" because of the trouble he gave the British during the Revolution.

The county seat, also named Marion, was the home of Ohio's eighth president, Warren G. Harding. It is the center of one of the major popcorn-producing areas in the United States. The city also maintains a branch of the Ohio State University.

Chief industries in the county are; construction and mining machinery, metals, rubber, food, brake shoes, refrigeration equipment, surgical gloves, animal feeds, tin cans, malleable castings, and hogs.

Probate Judge has birth, marriage & probate records; County Health Department has death records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records; County Recorder has land records.
