OTHER INFORMATION

Auglaize County, located 80 miles southwest of Toledo, occupies the ridge dividing the headwaters of the Ohio River and Lake Erie. The name Auglaize comes from a Shawnee Indian word meaning "fallen timbers."

The city of Wapakoneta was named for an Indian Chief and stands on the site of an old Shawnee settlement. In earlier days the city was known for its wooden toys and furniture. It is noted today as the home of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon.

The main agricultural industry is dairy products. Other industries include; machinery, rubber, metals, food, mechanical presses, power shears, floor tile and mats, processed meat and vegetables.

Probate Court has birth, death, marriage, & probate records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1848; County Recorder has land records.
