The Local History and Genealogy Department of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is located on the third floor of the Main Library. The department is a reference department and does not allow its material to circulate. Its collections can be divided into two major areas: local history of Toledo and Lucas County, Ohio, and genealogy. The genealogy collection covers well beyond the boundaries of Lucas County to include all of Ohio, adjacent states and the original thirteen states. The department is expanding by collecting materials about states west of the Mississippi River. The local history and genealogy areas are described separately even though genealogists and local historians will be interested in both lists.
