Bureau Of Land Management keeps records from these States online, Alabama, Arkansas, Flordia, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. - This site has information dating back to 1812 which was when the General Land Office came into existence. The BLM is what was created when the General Land Office and another agency were merged. The site tells this history. They, also, have archived all the records of the orginal two agencies. These records, including land patents, are now online at the site. (The site is searchable using the usual conventions. You do not need to fill in every box with information. Filling in just the last name of the patentee, which is how I found what I was looking for, works just fine.) This site recommends obtaining a viewing program such as CPC or some such thing in order to view TIFF image format. Here is one of the best free downloads I have found, which lets you blow up or shrink the image to fit your screen and print it out also: http://www.acdvictoria.com/index.html. It is known as ACDSEE and is a freebie. They have a "viewer for Windows 95, 3.1, NT, etc. Size of file averages about 1.5 megs. [Bureau of Land Management - Eastern States, General Land Office, **The Official Land Patent Records Site** FREE search for records, original records have been scanned in to view (see above for free viewer), "certified copies" available for $1.50, a very reasonable charge!]
