I'm Caryn and I've been on the list since Deb first started it (Isn't she the *best*, by the way??). I don't post much, but read it all. I guess I don't have a whole lot to contribute. I seem to do my research in spurts... I need to get myself over to Jacksonville and environs to see it all for myself. Shouldn't be too bad, as I still have family in the area and I'm not that far away. Anyone up for a road trip??

The surnames I am researching so far are Ferriera/Smith and Gouveia. My gg-grandfather is Joseph SMITH (Ferriera) and he married Ellen GOUVEIA. Joseph's mother is Jozefa DeFREITAS FERREIRA. I don't know his father's name. They immigrated from Madeira around 1848.

Most of this information was graciously given to me my the one and only Deb Kleber and I haven't really done any more work on it, as I've been working on some other lines lately. Hopefully I'll get some time to take a road trip and uncover more of the Madeira Mystery...
