I am researching the ancestors of Calvin James MADDUX (d: August 1956 in Kingsport, Tennessee), the son of Francis Marion MADDUX (b: 22 Feb 1860, d: 12 Nov 1916) and Laura SHEARL. Seeking information on the parents of John MADDOX, born about 1793 in VA; died 1835 in Hardin County, TN. His children were: Margarett A. (born 1816 TN), Nancy J. (born 1818 TN), Elizabeth (born 1822 TN),Ephraim L. (born 1823 TN), Daniel (born 1824 TN), John Clark (born 1826 TN), Mary Jane (born 1828 TN), Rebecca (born 1830 TN) and William W. (born 1832 TN). His wife's first name was Mary. His daughter Margarett married Abner Wilson BLEVINS on 05/18/1837 in Hardin County, TN. Abner's parents were Richard BLEVINS and Sarah MADDOX BLEVINS. It is said that Sarah MADDOX BLEVINS was a sister to John. She was born between 1799 and 1809 in Tennessee and died about 1858 in Hardin County, TN. All the children's name's of John MADDOX are so close to the Maddoxes I am researching. I am having trouble locating the parents of William MADDOX, born abt 1775 in ?. His children were: William J. (b. abt 1798 in TN), Nicholas MADDOX (b. 12/25/1800 in Lincoln Co. TN), Wilson L. MADDOX (b. abt 1805 in Lincoln Co. TN), Nancy MADDOX (bet. 1810-1814 in Lincoln Co. TN m. John PORCH), John P. MADDOX (b. 4/8/1811 in Lincoln Co. TN m. Polly JONES), James MADDOX (b. abt. 1815). There is also a Michael MADDOX in the Lincoln Co. I am looking for ancestors of James MADDEX b. 1772 in Wales or Hartford Co Md. USA. married Hannah Virginia MCCOMAS circa 1802, d.2/21/1821. I believe his grandfather was Samuel MADDOX of Maesmawr,Liafynach,Wales who emigrated to St. Marys Co. Md. in 1676 and married Margaret TOWNLEY . he died in 1684. he had 4 children. Notley b. 1672 whose offspring do not appear to include James, Samuel b. 1674 and William b 1676 offspring unknown. and John b 1678 m Sarah HATCH listed as having no issue. My gr-grandmother, (Elizabeth) Jane MADDOX/MATTAX, was born 23 Oct 1800 in Shelbyville, Shelby Co., KY. She married Wm. Nichols GOTT (son of Robert & Lydia (NICHOLS) GOTT) 11 May 1820 in Shelbyville. After they had a family and they had sent their sons out west to find & purchase more land for the family, Wm. died. Different sons & their families moved their families to MO, IA, and wherever to farm the land their father had purchased for them. Jane moved with some of her children west to Linn Co., IA to live. She died there 30 Jul 1873. Here headstone still stands.
Jane's parents were, Daniel and Nancy Jane (WILLIS) MADDOX. Daniel was born 1756 in VA to Wm. MADDOX Sr. and Elizabeth WILSON, and Daniel then died 24 Jan 1823, Jennings Co., IN. Nancy Jane was born 1774 in Shelby Co., KY to Wm. Willis and Elizabeth AVERILLA; Nancy Jane then died 6 Feb 1855 in Jennings Co., IN. Daniel & Nancy Jane were married 8 Oct 1798 in Shelbyville.
Wm. MADDOX Sr.'s parents were John & Margaret MADDOX. This is all I have on the direct Maddox line. Wm. Willis died 1816 in Henry Co., KY (now Trimble Co.). He married Elizabeth AVERILLA 25 Nov 1760 in Culpepper Co., KY.
