Well, Maddux Cousins,

It all started with the three San Francisco Bay Area Maddux Cousins. Stormy, Donna and me, Maverik aka Patricia. We met over the web just last fall. Just after the month of March 1998 started I sent a note to Stormy and Donna. I half way jokingly said well, let's cc each other when ever we send a note and we will have our own Maddux Cousins Newsletter.

They took me serious. Look at what has happened. We now have close to 30 cousin's cc'ing each other. We also have close to 20 cousin's who will receive the newsletter via snail mail. We are all scattered in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Old Mexico (sorry, I was born on the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Texas. My grandmother always called it Old Mexico. She was born there, what do I know)

It is the greatest because for me because I now have almost 50 people that I know are my FAMILY. (Make that 100 to count the spouses after all they are family too. I think we'll have to guesstimate the kids.) WOW!! When I grew up my dad was in the Army and we traveled a lot. We were never near any of our family except my grandmother Benedicta Maddux. Once in a while we would go visit Aunt Fanny and Uncle Jim Maddux in Batesville, Texas. I remember playing in her root cellar and playing her pieanna. But that was when I was about 7 or 8 years old after that we lost touch with everyone.

Oh dear, I guess I got off track a bit. I guess you can see I have a big personal stake in this because of getting to know my family. That is what I would like this list to do. Maddux Cousins getting to know each other. I know that there are many of us that are really interested in tracing our roots. Who knows maybe we could put a Maddux Cousins book together and publish it for our descendants. (You will have to get used to my pipe dreams. I have a lot of them.)

We have a modest beginning with our web page and I am quite thrilled with it. However, I see this as a joint venture. I don't mind doing a lot of the work but you will all have to help with the ideas and information.

The Newsletter:

What do you suggest we call it?

There is going to be two forms of it. What I can publish on the web and what I can publish on paper. Due to the fact that we only have 10megs I will have to rotate the articles and photos to be able to share the information. I am thinking of a quarterly newsletter that will be sent to our snail mail cousins. Those that can help a $5 donation to help cover the cost will be very much appreciated at least for the first year. I also want to publish a yearly journal which will contain the information that was sent out quarterly along with a couple of new articles. If I do that then I will have to figure out the cost. I will then offer it to anyone that would like to have a copy for the cost of paper, printing and mailing. Being retired does have some drawbacks.

I will close for now, just waiting to hear from everyone on a regular basis.

May the blessing you deserve be waiting for you every morning.

Maverik
