Descendants of John Maybury of Sussex (ca 1540-1618)

John Maybury was first married in Brightling, Sussex in December 1565. He was a skilled ironworker who worked in Sussex, Staffordshire, Monmouth and Hampshire. He died in Shropshire in 1618, leaving several sons who were also hammermen or forgemen. In the records he left behind we have found his surname spelled nine different ways.  In 1657 one of his grandsons emigrated to Londonderry in northern Ireland. By 1671 there were Mayburys in County Kerry, Ireland. About the same time the first Maybury appeared in Virginia. Since then the family has spread to other parts of America, to Australia, and elsewhere. Today the Maybury name is spelled many different ways but almost all are descendants of this English ironworking family.

Values shown in yellow are normal mutations which probably occurred several generations ago because they are found in more than one branch of the family.  Values shown in pink may be more recent since most are found only in the DNA of a single participant.  Values shown in green are common to all participants.
