Descendants of Mary Fontaine Generation No. 1 1. M ARY2 FONTAINE (NICHOLAS1) was born Abt. 1719, and died Aft. 1780. She married JONATHAN TULL I Bef. 1747 in Somerset Co, Maryland, son of GEORGE TULL and HANNAH NOBLE.Notes for J ONATHAN TULL I:He fought in the Revolutionary War. He was the 7th child of ?George & Hannah Noble Tull. His will was probated 22 March 1787 (or 30 October 1785). Maryland records do not list children William and Samuel, however Johnathan was married twice and children by each wife are a little confusing. A Revolutionary service record appears for on Jonathan Tull but it cannot be proved if it was for the father or son? However, it appears likely that the father was too old for service. Yet a service record appears for Noble Tull who was a brother of the elder Jonathan. Children of M ARY FONTAINE and JONATHAN TULL are:
Generation No. 2 2. J OHN NICHOLAS3 TULL, SR (MARY2 F FONTAINE, NICHOLAS1) was born Abt. 1745 in Somerset Co, Maryland, and died Aft. 1830 in Stokes Co, North Carolina. He married POLLY MITCHELL Bef. 1765, daughter of ISAAC MITCHELL.Notes for J OHN NICHOLAS TULL, SR:He was listed as John Nicholas Tull in court records of Stokes Co, North Carolina. He went from Maryland to Bertie Co, North Carolina briefly, then to Lehigh Co, Pennsylvania, at Germansville. He served in the Revolutionary War at nearby Northampton Co, Pennsylvania. After the war he went to Stokes Co, North Carolina. Records copied from the Bible belonging to Daniel Tull (born 1757) list Johnathan and Mary Fontaine Tull of Somerset Co, Maryland and children Nicholas, William, Sarah, Nancy, and Samuel. A line was drawn across and then Nelly, Mary, Johnathan and James were listed. Then continues records of (John) Nicholas Tull and wife, Polly Mitchell & their children, including Daniel, born in 1767, Nicholas, born 1770; Johnathan, George, Abraham, etc. This was followed by all of Daniel Tull's children, including a daughter named Nancy Fontaine Tull. It would seem, therefore, that the name "Nicholas" entered this line of the Tull family because the father-in-law of Johnathan Tull was Nicholas Fontaine. A further reason for believing that this line includes the Fontaine family in its ancestry is the fact that Daniel Tull (1767-1851) named his first child, Nancy Fontaine Tull. Source: "Genealogy & Descendants of Stephen Oscar & Cora Tull", by Robert Ashcraft, Pg 21. Children of J OHN TULL and POLLY MITCHELL are:are: d. Aft. 1852, Jacks Creek, Henderson Co, Tennessee. vii. WILLIAM TULL IV, b. Abt. 1773; d. Aft. 1774. viii. SON TULL, b. Aft. 1775; d. Aft. 1776. Generation No. 3 3. D ANIEL4 TULL (JOHN NICHOLAS3, M, MARY2 F FONTAINE, NICHOLAS1) was born March 24, 1767 in North Carolina, and died 1851.Notes for D ANIEL TULL:The birthplace for Daniel appears confusing. How could he have been born in North Carolina if his father was the Jonathan who served in Maryland during the revolution. By referring back to the 8th generation you will see that William, son of George, may be the William who located in Phil. Then in Northampton Co, Pennsylvania right up the Delaware River from Phil. I found a Nicholas Tull who served with the Frontier Rangers. In the 1790 census for Stokes Co, North Carolina 5 males over 16 in the house of Nicholas Tull. Question is whether Nicholas was father of 5 sons or was Jonathan?? Of course by reverse thinking Nicholas might have been the married brother and his other unmarried brothers might have been making their home with him, which would still leave the possibility of Jonathan as the father. Child of D ANIEL TULL is:i. NANCY FONTAINE5 TULL, b. Abt. 1788; d. WFT Est. 1789-1882. 4. J OHN NICHOLAS4 TULL, JR (JOHN NICHOLAS3, M, MARY2 F FONTAINE, NICHOLAS1) was born Abt. 1771 in Dobbs Co, North Carolina, and died Aft. 1852 in Jacks Creek, Henderson Co, Tennessee. He married SUSAN "SUKEY" BAUGH Abt. 1790, daughter of JOSIAH BAUGH and MILLY SHEPHERD.Notes for J OHN NICHOLAS TULL, JR:He was in the WAR of 1812. His war record pg 3-13 shows him as a Private & Lt. Applied for land grant in 1852. He had other children but their names are unknown at this time. He appeared in the 1790 census in Dobbs Co., North Carolina. He was listed in the early Tennessee tax rolls for Davidson Co., (Nashville) for the years 1805 and 1811. He enlisted in the Tennessee Volunteers in the fall of 1813 and was mustered into Capt. Frederick Strumps Co. of Mounted Gunmen at Clover Bottoms, Near Nashville. He applied in April 1852 for his 40 acre land bounty, listing his age at 79 and his post office as Jacks Creek, Henderson Co., Tennessee now Chester CO. Children of J OHN TULL and SUSAN BAUGH are:
