Salt River Church & Cemetery Salt River Community is about 10 miles west of Mexico, MO in Audrain Co. Actually, when I was married the first time, I went to Salt River Church. It is a very small "Country" church and still active. This is copied from the Salt River cemetery book in
the Audrain County Area Genealogical Society. SALT RIVER CHRISTIAN CHURCH AND CEMETERY AUDRAIN COUNTY, MISSOURI Sec 10, T50N, R10W Salt River Christian Church is located in Wilson Township, Audrain County, about 3/4 miles north of State Highway M and D on County Road #243. The church was formed in 1844 and services are held regularly there still. Until a building was erected in the early 1850's, the congregation met at Faucett school house located about 3/4 miles northwest of the present church site. The first building was replaced by a second building in 1872. After it was struck by a tornado in 1919, it was remodeled and stood until destroyed by fire in 1958. The present modern building then was constructed in the same location. The cemetery, which adjoins the church yard on the north,
was deeded to the Salt River Christian Church by Edmund Faucett and was recorded
in 1844. Mr.. Faucett was the second person to be interred there. Two
years ago the cemetery suffered extensive damage by vandals and although many of
the broken gravestones have been repaired, parts of some inscriptions are
missing or not now legible.
