James Newton Baskett, of this city, has been elected a member of the American Association for the advancement of Science, which honor came to him entirely unsolicited and through the president of the association, Prof. R. S. Woodward, of Columbia University, New York. Mr. Baskett highly appreciates this token of the esteem in which he is held in scientific circles and will endeavor to attend the meeting of the association in Colorado this summer.
