Story* | Notes on: Alexandre (AL) Louviere (Louvier) (RN=221) Sheila's grandfather. Sheila's notes: As a young man he decided he did not want to be a farmer. He had his cousin, who was the school teacher, fail him in the eighth grade so he could get an extra year of school since schools in those days only went through the eighth grade. He first worked at the Maison Blanche in New Orleans selling clothes. Later he became a maitre d' and worked in the large hotels in New York and Chicago. He met his wife Faye while he was working in Chicago. She at first thought he was a member of the mafia because he worked nights and wore a tux all the time. After his marriage he changed jobs because he did not believe that being a maitre d' was respectable enough for a married man. He developed a cough while he was in Chicago, and a doctor told him he had tuberculosis. He therefore shaved his head, and he and Faye moved to New Mexico where the air was supposed to be better for his cough while he waited to die. After moving to New Mexico, his cough disappeared, and he realized he was not going to die. However he could not get another job as a maitre d' because his head was bald. Pookey's mother died @ her birth. Her Father died when she was 12. She was born in Detroit, Michigan. She had two older brothers. She lived in: Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Port Arthur. She was raised in an orphanage from the age of 12 where she was trained as a teletypist. Al and Faye are buried in the family plot at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas. Rom's notes: Al changed the family name from Louviere to Louvier. Al lived in Los Angeles, had a used car dealership with Kathern Hepburn's brother. After Marvin was born, Al and Fay came back to Port Neches and left Marvin with Sully and his wife while he and Faye went back to Chicago to work. They later came back and established Louvier Furniture Company in 1929. Louvier Furniture Company @ 84O 7th street, Port Arthur, Tx . 1932 came to Port Arthur, Tx. Al and Faye lived at 3l38 13th Street in Port Arthur. | |
