Explanatory Notes S.A. White
i. Marie-Josephe Levron, her second husband, and all other children were
among the Acadian families on lie St-Jean who disappeared without a
trace after 1758. Following a thorough investigation of the matter, it is
presumed that they were among the unfortunate passengers on board
one of the two English transports that were lost at sea.
ii. At the marriage of Simon's daughter Marguerite Levron (Rg Que 4 May
1767), Pierre Creysac dit Toulouse was a witness. He is described in the
document as the bride's uncle. This Pierre Creysac was merely the
second husband of Joseph Levron's widow, but this mention of him as
234
Marguerite's "uncle" makes it clear that Anne Comeau's first husband
was Simon Levron's brother.
iii. The registers of Notre-Dame de Quebec contain the burial record of
Guillaume-Gaspard Levron, son of Jacques Levron and Marie Doiron
(13 Jan 1758). This little boy was surely given his first names to honour
the other Guillaume-Gaspard Levron, who must have been his father's
brother. One may thus conclude that Marie Doiron's husband was the
son of Jacques Levron and Marie Doucet.
iv. According to the register ofSte-Anne-de-la-Pocatiere, Jacques Dubois
was the widower of Marguerite Levron when he contracted his last
marriage, on November 3, 1767, to Marguerite Guay dit Castonguay,
widow of Jacques-Roch Gauvin. At the appropriate time, there were
only two Levron families in Acadia to which Marguerite Levron could
have belonged, those of Jacques Levron Junior and his brother Jean-
Baptiste. No Marguerite is known among Jean-Baptiste's children, but
the registers of Port-Royal show clearly that Jacques Junior did indeed
have a daughter by that name. Presumably it was she who had married
Jacques Dubois.
