Ervin Janssen, 76, of Kankakee, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Saturday and from noon Sunday until the 1 p.m. services at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Herb Thompson will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bonfield.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Janssen was an electrician who owned his business retiring in 1985.
He was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Buckley, the son of Lehnert and Verna Hartke Janssen.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lulabelle Riegel Mathis, whom he married July 6, 1991; five sons and four daughters-in- law, Michael R. and Rose Janssen of Riverview, Fla., Douglas L. and Tamara Janssen of Santa Rosa, Calif., Robert E. Janssen of California; Gary L. and Mary Mathis of Kankakee, David L. and Kathy Mathis of Stone Lake, Wis.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Janssen and Kevin Boyn of St. Louis, Mo., Linda S. and John Stahl of Bourbonnais, Cheryl A. and Steven Sikorski of Hammond, Ind.; one sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Bob Weisenbarn of Buckley; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Elaine Janssen of Thor, Iowa, Arno and Eileen Janssen, Gerald and Janice Janssen, all of Buckley; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One brother, Clinton Janssen; and one son, Kevin Mathis, are deceased.
He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical school.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1943-1946. He was a member of the Buckley American Legion Post.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
He loved taking walks.
