WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- Rev. Dr. M.D. Hilgendorf, 74, of Wauwatosa, Wis., formerly of Buckley, died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2003) at his home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton, Wis., where he was a member.
Memorials may be made to the Hilgendorf Ministerial Scholarship Fund, Director of Major Gifts, Concordia Theological Seminary, 6600 N. Clinton St., Fort Wayne, IN 48825-4996.
He was born March 20, 1929, in Buckley, the son of Arthur and Clara Hilgendorf.
His wife, the former Adeline Bohlmann, whom he married Aug. 8, 1954, died in 2000.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Ann Hilgendorf of Tuscola, Ill., Thomas and Mary Hilgendorf of Houghton, Mich., Nathan and Julie Hilgendorf of Washington Township, Mich., Daniel and Renee Hilgendorf of Dexter, Mich.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Ruth and Tom Bretz of Villa Grove, Ill., Mary and Jack Appleby of Atwood, Ill., Lois and Tony Love of Ann Arbor, Mich., Rebecca Hilgendorf of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Obert and Evelyn Hilgendorf of Chebanse and Onnie and Nancy Hilgendorf of Donovan.
One sister and brother-in-law, Aloha and Bob Munstermann, are deceased.
Shortly after his marriage, he became a pastor in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He served congregations in Park City, Mont.; Buhl, Idaho; Engadine, Mich., and Tuscola, Ill.
He became a faculty member of Concordia University, Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1977, and continued on the faculty of Concordia University, Mequon, Wis., until his retirement in 1994.
He also served as visitation pastor for Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, Wis., St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton, Wis., and St. John Lutheran Church, Glendale, Wis.
Rev. Hilgendorf received a bachelor's degree in theology from Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., a master's degree in communications from Eastern Illinois University, and a master's degree of divinity, Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., He also held a doctorate of divinity from Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., and a doctorate of communications from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.
He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and traveling.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Rev. M.D. Hilgendorf, 74, of Wauwatosa, Wis., died Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2003) at home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton, Wis. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mueller Funeral Home, 979 12th Ave., Grafton, Wis., is in charge of arrangements.
