39. Laura Louise Dora
HARTKE was born on 24 May 1889 in Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois.134 (In this birth listing Laura's
mother's name is mangled in one of the more familiar ways: Mary's name is given
as CRUMWEIDE, Mary.) She died before 1989 in Rolla, Missouri.137 Assumed Laura Louise Dora HARTKE and Charles F WILKENS
were married on 6 Oct 1906 in St. John's Lutheran Church (LCMS), Buckley, Illinois.
Charles F WILKENS (son of Henry WILKENS and Louise
VOLBERDING) was born on 22 Jan 1869 in Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois.
He died of a heart attack on 12 Jan 1946 in Rolla, Missouri.138
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wilkens arrive home Sunday evening from Rolla, Mo., where
they attended the funeral services of Mr. Chas. F. Wilkens, formerly of here.
Mr. Wilkens died suddenly without any warning to his family of a heart attack,
Saturday, Jan. 12, at about 9 a.m. He had complained that morning of not feeling
quite so well but continued with his chores. He was found dead later by his family,
having fallen while on his way to the bedroom. Services were held Tuesday at
the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Rolla, with interment at the Rolla Lutheran cemetery.
He was born Jan. 22, 1869 at Buckley, the son of Henry and Louise Wilkens. On
October 6, 1906, he was married to Miss Laura Hartke, daughter of William and
Mary Hartke, at Buckley. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold Berwick
of Rolla, Mrs. William Bayer of Riverdale; four brothers and one sister; George
of Buckley, Henry, Chicago, Fred of California, Emil of Mapleton, Minn., and
Mrs. Henry Knuth of Dalton; also five grandchildren. He spent most of his youth
at Buckley. He was a member of the Rolla Emmanuel Lutheran church and served
as secretary of the AA Lutheran insurance company at Rolla up to his death. His
many friends extend their sympathy to his wife and members of his family.
