Matilda E (Tillie) HARTKE was born on 22 Jun 1885 in Artesia Township, Iroquois County, Illinois.^134,135 She died of influenza on 15 Oct 1918 in Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois.¹³⁶ She died in the influenza pandemic. According to the obituary of William John Hartke, Tillie died two days before her grandfather, Henry Konrad Krumwiede. She was buried about 16 Oct 1918 in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Buckley, Illinois.¹⁹ Section A, Row 20, Plot 30.

Matilda E (Tillie) HARTKE and Emil WILKENS were married about 1909. Year of marriage based on the year of birth of her child. There has been some disagreement regarding whether Matilda and Emil were ever married, but her son used the name Wilkens, though some family records give him the surname Hartke.
